The Portland Food Co-op’s online shopping service (powered by WebCart™) includes a health attribute tag system to help give you more information about the products you are purchasing. This is a complete guide to all 14 tags and what each one means.
Please note: we are continuously updating this information, and not every product is tagged with every attribute that applies.
ANTIBIOTIC-FREE (AF)
Free of all antibiotic ingredients or chemicals and not produced in a facility that uses antibiotics.
Cage-Free (CF)
USDA certified as “free range” (animals have outdoor access at least part of the day).
Fair Trade (FT)
Certified that a fair price was paid to producers in developing countries.
GLUTEN-FREE (GF)
Free from all gluten-based products and not produced in a facility with gluten-based ingredients.
kosher (K)
Products contain ingredients that conform to the regulations of Jewish Dietary Law.
Non-GMO (NG)
Products contain no genetically modified organisms (GMO) or genetically altered ingredients.
NO SALT/LOW-SODIUM (NS)
Product contains little to no sodium (salt).
100% ORGANIC (O1)
USDA Organic Certified. Made with 100% organic ingredients (includes 100% organic animals and animals fed organic diet).
95-99% ORGANIC (O2)
Made with 95-99% organic ingredients. Remaining ingredients not available organically, but are National Organic Program approved.
94-70% ORGANIC (O3)
Made with 94-70% organic ingredients. Remaining ingredients not available organically, but are National Organic Program approved.
RAW (R)
Product is unprocessed, uncooked, and unpasteurized.
SUGAR-FREE/NO SUGAR ADDED (SF)
Contains no added sugars.
VEGETARIAN (V)
Product qualifies for a vegetarian diet. Does not contain meat, but may contain animal products, such as eggs or honey.
Vegan (VG)
Product qualifies for a vegan diet. Does not contain any animal products or ingredients derived from animals.
