Food Access
Updated 10/31/2025
Dear Co-op Community,
Like many of you, we are concerned about our Member-Owners and neighbors who may not receive their November SNAP benefits. While we work to figure out how else we can best support our community, we want to share local resources that can help connect folks with food in the meantime.
Food Pantries, Distributions, & Other Resources:
Cumberland County Food Pantries
York County Food Pantries
Good Shepherd Food Bank’s Searchable Map
Good Shepherd food bank’s comprehensive web page for hunger relief resources in Maine
(multiple languages available)
Other Resources
Greater Portland Health’s Fresh Produce Distribution: Wednesdays from 1:30 - 3:30 pm at 180 Park Ave.
Equality Community Center: Free community meal on Tuesdays at 1pm at 15 Casco St. Sponsored by Wayside Food Programs, all are welcome!
Portland Farmers Market: Check in at the Market Info booth and show your SNAP card to receive $15 in Harvest Bucks to spend with any market vendor.
PFC’s own Pay-It-Forward program: Community members can check the board at the front of the store and receive a prepaid card, when available, to purchase a soup, a sandwich, or a coffee. No questions asked.
Ways to Help:
The Co-op will be hosting a non-perishable food drive for the Locker Project in November. We'll be accepting donations to help stock in-school food pantries and provide food for local families. Keep an eye out for more information.
Consider purchasing a Pay-It-Forward card next time you shop. Ask your cashier for details!
Check the list of local food pantries and resources and consider volunteering or donating to them directly if you are able.
