Waste Free Kitchen

FREE to attend! No signup required.

The average American throws away 3.5 pounds of food per week, not only wasting money but also tossing all the resources it took to get that food to your kitchen. Learn tips and tricks for managing food and using up leftovers and ideas for how to get the most out of peels, stems, and produce that may be past its prime. Sample recipes for using up leftovers and scraps, such as savory hand pies and leftover grain muffins.

Anna Hewitt has been passionate about making things and caring for the earth her whole life. She grew her knowledge of cooking and baking while working in restaurants, commercial bakeries, as an apprentice cheese maker, and a master food preserver. More recently, she is sharing her knowledge on how to use scraps, odds, and ends to encourage creativity and connection and provide resources for people to live a less wasteful, more abundant life. Anna lives on the coast of southern Maine with her husband and two young children where she is building a suburban homestead, turning her lawn into an orchard and vegetable garden, and befriending a small flock of chickens.
