Buyer Skills Intensive Workshop



The Portland Food Co-op is collaborating with National Co+op Grocers and Columinate to offer an all-day intensive training specifically for food co-op managers and buyers.

The training will focus on:

  • margin & pricing education & strategy

  • applied & achieved margin management

  • margin troubleshooting

  • inventory, promotion & category management

The goal of the workshop is to augment the skills of buyers and department managers to enable them to confidently make connections between the impacts of their work and the customer experience and financial bottom-line, and to effectively manage the financial success of their departments and margins through proper inventory, pricing, and category management.

We will be offering this on two separate days, Wednesday, October 16 and Thursday, October 17. This is a one-day program so you can choose which day you would like to attend. If multiple people from your co-op want to come, some can attend on one day and some on the next. We chose two days because we understand food co-ops can’t have their entire buying and management staff gone on the same day.

The training will be led by Brittany Baird, Operations and Financial Improvement Specialist with Columinate.
